Learning lessons for the future: The potential of rural economies

This Great Brief explores the potential of economic development in rural areas in the context of current economic and regeneration policy, which has tended to prioritise urban centres and city regions as engines of growth. This Great Brief suggests that in post recession era, economic recovery in the regions will require both growth in urban centres but also will rely on the entrepreneurial potential of rural areas to generate wealth for the UK’s regions and to engender greater economic resilience for the future. This Great Brief also explores a number of potential growth sectors for the future.
