Designing Places

Prior to setting the Yorkshire Regional Design Review service, a detailed survey took place looking at other regional panels and also CABE’s national panel. This comprehensive survey also included all local or sub area panels within the region.  The survey provided very useful information on best practice, outcomes, effectiveness, protocols and lessons learnt, which informed the final nature of the Regional Design Review Service.

It became evident during this survey, that Design Review does not stand alone, but is just one conversation out of a sustained design dialogue which emerges from the very earliest project considerations through to completion. Such an on-going dialogue can be summarised as ‘design enabling’.  An understanding of what actually constitutes ‘design enabling’ is summarised in the sub section to the right.
