The annual search for the most enterprising destination on the UK’s ‘business map’ has started.

Enterprising Britain showcases cities, villages, towns and neighbourhoods that have tackled the economic downturn and are successfully creating jobs, boosting local business and nurturing entrepreneurial talent.

HCA Changes at the Homes & Communities Agency

The HCA Academy has become a new corporate directorate within the HCA (Homes & Communities Agency). The new Skills and Knowledge directorate is led by Gill Taylor, formerly responsible for the Academy. It continues the Academy's work to diagnose skills gaps and devise practical support programmes for priority places and incorporates their local employment programmes.

CO2Sense Yorkshire is offering capital funding support to SMEs in the resource efficiency sector to make CO2 savings through reducing waste, saving water or saving energy.

Funding is available for waste reduction initiatives, recycling services, or re-use projects. There is also financial support to help businesses to reduce their energy and water consumption, increase water re-use, or use waste to generate energy.

Design Review Panel and Partners New Regional Design Review Service is launched

Integreat Yorkshire and Yorkshire Forward launched the new Regional Design Review Service on Monday 18 January 2010, at the Hospitium, Museum Road, York.

The Regional Design Review Service will provide free, independent advice on major development schemes and strategies that will have a significant impact on the region’s towns and cities in terms of their ability to attract investment and to stabilize and grow their economies.

Speaking at the event, Jan Anderson, Executive Director of Environment at Yorkshire Forward said “Good design makes good economic sense, and well-designed places tend to be more successful economically and socially. In these challenging economic times Yorkshire Forward believes that supporting the new Regional Design Review Service puts the region one step ahead in preparation for is an upturn."

HCA Call for submission to place-making recognition scheme

The HCA Academy is seeking submissions for their recognition scheme. They are looking for partners that share the Academy’s values about creating better places; by enhancing community or professional understanding of place-making and encouraging different groups to work together. Examples of products which can be submitted for recognition include:
• Learning programmes
• Training courses
• Events, conferences or workshops
• Best practice or toolkits

Distrinctive Towns Report Distinctive Futures Report available.

A study, Distinctive Futures, has now been published by Yorkshire Forward as part of its Rural Capitals programme. This programme aims to support the development of sustainable rural towns in Yorkshire and the Humber and to ensure that the region’s rural capitals are vibrant places where people want to live, work, invest and visit.
