The challenge for all Town Teams is to have gathered representative opinion on projects in a systematic way which will also yield information which is suitable for informing future plans. CABE’s Spaceshaper Toolkit was used to gather public attitudes to three key development areas, which involves surveying a cross section of people.

 

Over 200 people participated in the surveys and their views informed the proposed development of these areas. Locations were chosen in both of the towns in Grimsby’s St James Square and Waterside and in Doncaster The Minster Quarter

Participating individuals learn about Urban Space Design, the prime considerations and the possibilities, to better understand the developments and the raison d’etre behind those developments. The Town Team’s plans were better informed and grounded in public desire and perception.

The results of the surveys have now been shared with the respective Councils and well received. It would have been preferable if the Surveys had been done earlier in the process to heighten the impact at conception level.
